This is a yirdaki made and painted by David Dharrapuy, Ramingining's main ceremonial yirdaki player. First he plays and sings Burrmalala (Cyclone) and then Lorrpu (White Cockatoo). An old Australian ballad about the troubles of a farmhand working for an impoverished farmer. A "cockatoo," or "cockie", was a small settler, and the reference to the stringy-bark tree is an indication of very poor farming land. This song was included in Banjo Patterson's "Old Bush.... more
